The rector of the Russian New University, Vladimir Zernov, said that employees of the Moscow department of the FSB detained a student studying in the first year of his university. The freshman allegedly threatened to “carry out a massacre” at the university.
“This is a freshman who just entered the university. He behaved defiantly, made threats, and his classmates immediately reported this to the university administration,” Mr. Zernov said, his words are quoted on website university.
According to the rector, information about the freshman was “immediately” transferred to the special services. Mr. Zernov called the student a “follower of the Columbine cult” and said that he was in custody.
On September 26, 34-year-old graduate Artem Kazantsev attacked school No. 88 in Izhevsk. The shooting killed 17 people, including 11 children. 25 people were injured. After that, the Ministry of Education announced security checks in educational institutions.
