The balloon on which the Russian travelers Fedor Konyukhov and Ivn Menyailo flew landed at an airfield in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Thus, a new transcontinental flight record was set – 2540 km. This is 174 km more than the Japanese Michio Kanda flew in 1994.
Now the world records for the distance and duration of a flight in a hot air balloon belong to Russia. The balloon took off from Kirovsk, Murmansk region, early in the morning on March 24. And two days later he landed at the Khatanga airfield. He overcame the airspace of five subjects of the Federation. The flight altitude was from 3 to 6 km.
Another record has been set. For the first time, pilots flew in a hot air balloon with an open basket over the sea at high northern latitudes. The entire flight took place between 67 and 72 degrees north latitude, that is, beyond the Arctic Circle.
