Academician Lev Zeleny, scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of the first stage of the lunar program, explained why it is more profitable to create two devices at once for the Luna-27 mission.
“The production of the second device will cause an increase in the price of the entire expedition – but not twice, but by 30-35 percent, since one prototype for two copies will be tested,” Zeleny said.
According to him, such an approach significantly saves effort on testing and allows the efficiency of a scientific mission to be multiplied.
