The number of refusals to extradite to Russia after the start of the special operation has increased dramatically, said Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Petr Gorodov in the Federation Council.

“The extradition situation is not new for us, but it is rapidly evolving, especially since the beginning of the special military operation. The number of unsatisfied requests is estimated at 120, in contrast to 2021, when there were 66 such refusals,” leads his words “Interfax”.

Gorodov specified that 74 refusals were for political reasons, and the rest – without giving reasons. It is mainly about the traditional extradition partners of the Russian Federation, he explained, which include Germany, Spain and Poland. At the same time, Spain detains persons at the request of Russia, but there have been no extraditions yet. According to him, delays are not only for economic crimes, but also for grave and especially grave crimes.

Earlier in April, a court in Albania refused Russia in the extradition of Russian blogger Svetlana Timofeeva, who was detained at an abandoned military plant in the republic in August 2022.
