The Prosecutor General’s Office recognized The Andrei Sakharov foundation (“Andrei Sakharov’s Fund”) as an undesirable organization in Russia. The supervisory authority believes that the fund poses a threat to “the foundations of the constitutional order and security of the Russian Federation.”
As reported in press release Prosecutor General’s Office, The Andrei Sakharov Foundation is a US-based non-governmental organization. According to the law, soon the Ministry of Justice will add the fund to the list of organizations whose activities are recognized as undesirable.
The American organization is affiliated with the Russian Sakharov Foundation, the Sakharov Center (recognized as a foreign agent), as well as the Berlin Sakharov-Centrum. The Andrey Sakharov Foundation was founded in Russia in 1989 and in the USA in 1990. Elena Bonner, Andrei Sakharov’s wife, was the chairman of both foundations.
