General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation acknowledged undesirable activities of the American non-governmental organization The Altai Project on the territory of Russia. The supervisory authority believes that “the key direction of the organization’s work is sabotaging the construction of the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline.”

The Prosecutor General’s Office claims that The Altai Project is calling for donations of funds for environmental research, “which will prove the allegedly detrimental effect of the gas pipeline, as well as for propaganda work in Russian and international society, the purpose of which is to convey to the public the thesis about the need to ‘fight for sacred places’ ” in the Republic of Altai”. From the press release of the department it follows that the website of the organization contains “a call for participation in protests and disobedience.”

In addition, the Prosecutor General’s Office stated that The Altai Project opposes the development of the Kara-Kul field, “arguing its position with ”negative consequences” for the region’s ecology.” The agency accused the organization of causing “economic damage to Russia”, organizing activities “in the interests of foreign enterprises” and “deliberately restricting the competitiveness of Russian companies.”
