The Progress spacecraft took the ISS away from space debris

The Progress MS-22 space transport cargo ship took the International Space Station (ISS) away from a collision with space debris, reported press service of Roskosmos.

“Today, the orbit of the International Space Station was adjusted using the engines of the Progress MS-22 cargo spacecraft to avoid a possible collision with space debris. The engines of the ship docked to the Russian service module Zvezda were turned on at 15:42 Moscow time. They worked for 376 seconds and gave an impulse of 0.7 m / s, ”the message of the state corporation follows.

After performing the maneuver, preliminary, the average height of the ISS orbit increased by 1.2 km – up to 418.6 km, Roscosmos added. The state corporation noted that during the entire flight of the station, 334 corrections were made to the height of its orbit, including 183 with the help of the engines of the Progress spacecraft.

Roscosmos recalled that the crew of the 68th long-term expedition is currently working on board the ISS, consisting of Russian cosmonauts Sergey Prokopiev, Dmitry Petelin, Anna Kikina and Andrey Fedyaev, NASA astronauts Francisco Rubio, Nicole Mann, Josh Kassada, Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg , JAXA astronaut Koichi Wakata and UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi.

On March 3, the US Crew Dragon spacecraft, carrying four people, including a Russian cosmonaut, arrived to the ISS. The spacecraft left for the ISS on March 2. On board were Russian cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg, and UAE astronaut Sultan Al-Neyadi.
