Venezuela would like to be part of the BRICS, President Nicolas Maduro said following a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

“If Venezuela is asked if you want to join the BRICS at some point, Venezuela says yes, we would like to be part of the BRICS and accompany the construction of this new architecture and global policy,” – leads his words to RIA Novosti.

The Venezuelan President noted that the BRICS association was formed from five “powerful” countries. It consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. As Maduro stressed, now the BRICS is transforming into “a big magnet for those who want another world, (namely) peace, cooperation.”

Russia in 2024 will take over the chairmanship of the BRICS. In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin defined Kazan is the meeting place for the heads of state of this association next year. Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov has been appointed Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and provision of Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship. He was instructed to approve the composition of the organizing committee within a month, as well as to approve the plan of main events in connection with Russia’s chairmanship of the BRICS association in 2024.

In 2023, the BRICS summit will be held in South Africa.
