Moldovan President Maia Sandu called on Canada to impose sanctions against some Moldovan citizens, whom she called fugitive oligarchs. According to her, such a measure will allow the country to cope with corruption.
As the press service of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau clarified, Ottawa is ready to take such steps in the future, sanctions can be imposed both against citizens of Moldova and against Moldovan organizations.
“Canada intends to use the law on special economic measures to impose sanctions against individuals and organizations in Moldova that violate human rights, endanger international peace and security, or are involved in corrupt practices,” the message says.
