The President of Lithuania promised Kyiv 200 million euros and NASAMS systems

At a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda spoke about the approved plan for military assistance to Kyiv. Its total volume will be 200 million euros. In addition, Lithuania also plans to transfer NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine in September. This was announced on Wednesday, August 23, by the press service of the head of the Lithuanian state.
NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) is a ground-based air defense system developed by Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace (KDA) and Raytheon. Such weapons are capable of protecting against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), helicopters, cruise missiles and fixed-wing aircraft firing any of a wide range of existing missiles.
“Lithuania has approved a multi-year plan to support Ukraine, the amount of which will be about 200 million euros,” the official statement posted on Nausėda’s website says. “It is expected that military equipment, NASAMS systems, will arrive in Ukraine in September.”
During the meeting, the leaders of the two states also discussed the prospects for Ukraine’s European integration. According to the President of Lithuania, in order to start discussions on EU membership with the European Commission, Kyiv during this year “needs an even greater breakthrough in the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission.”
The fact that Lithuania will betray two NASAMS air defense launchers to Ukraine became known at the end of June. Nauseda then stated that his country acquired them for this very purpose.
Formerly MK informedthat Finland will send the 18th aid package to Ukraine. The total amount of support from Helsinki directed to Kyiv has already amounted to 1.7 billion euros. In the previous, 17th aid package, in addition to the previously provided types of weapons, there were also anti-aircraft systems and ammunition. In addition, Finland plans to take an active part in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
