The Russian military raised the MiG-29 fighter over the Barents Sea and escorted the R-8A Poseidon of the Norwegian Air Force, no violation of the state border was allowed. About it reported in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“On August 23, 2023, Russian means of airspace control over the waters of the Barents Sea detected an air target approaching the state border of the Russian Federation. To identify an air target and prevent violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, a MiG-29 fighter from the air defense forces of the Northern Fleet was raised into the air. The crew of the Russian fighter jet identified the air target as an R-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force.
The Ministry of Defense added that when the Russian fighter approached, the Norwegian Poseidon turned around from the state border. The ministry added that the MiG-29 pilots flew in strict accordance with the rules for the use of airspace.
Last time, the Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian Armed Forces raised fighter jet over the Barents Sea on 14 August. Then a Norwegian plane, R-8A Poseidon, also approached the state border. There were no violations of the state border.
