Finland, along with other allies, could consider providing Ukraine with older fighter jets. This was stated by the President of Finland Sanna Marin. Finnish Yle writes about it.
According to the publication, the leader of Finland announced her proposal during a trip to Kyiv. She was also accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Maria Ohisalo.
Sanna Marin stressed that the F-18 fighter-bombers, which are in service with the Finnish army, are in question. “Yes, I think we can discuss the Hornets, whether it will be possible to transfer them to Ukraine and what kind of preparation will be required for this,” said the President of Finland.
She noted that now Helsinki is – quote – “in an interesting position”, since the Finnish side has decided to purchase new military aircraft. Earlier, the leadership of Finland announced its intention to buy 64 American F-35s.
At the same time, Sanna Marin stressed that the discussion on the issue of fighters is at a “very early stage”, and broad international cooperation is needed in this matter.
