Peskov announced the inevitability of bilateral relations between Russia and Ukraine in the future

Bilateral relations between Russia and Ukraine are inevitable in the future, although it is premature to talk about the possibility of a peaceful settlement of the conflict now. This opinion was expressed by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the increasing number of Ukrainians who are in favor of peace talks with Russia.

“Honestly, it is premature to think so. But the fact that despite all the propaganda flows filled with hatred for Russia and so on, despite all the propaganda duping of the Ukrainian population, there are still some streams of sober thinking and approaches to the future of our bilateral relations in the country – and they are inevitable, because we are neighbors, that’s obvious. We have also talked about this before,” Peskov said.

The day before, March 9, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said that an increasing number of Ukrainians, including those from the western part of the country, are in favor of peace negotiations with Russia. “Keep in mind: there are more and more of them. This is a very dangerous trend when people even from western Ukraine start talking about such things,” he said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).

Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held negotiations several times in February and March 2022. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. After that, the process was frozen, since Kyiv withdrew from it.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is open to negotiations. At the same time, Ukraine has a document preventing their resumption. On October 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree refusing to negotiate with Russia as long as Vladimir Putin is its president.
