The President of Argentina signed a decree introducing 366 economic reforms

Argentine President Javier Miley signed a decree that provides for 366 reforms aimed at reducing government regulation of the economy, reports Argentine TV channel C5N.

Mr. Miley announced the signing of the decree on December 20 on Argentine television. He clarified that the reforms are aimed at changing “the repressive institutional legal framework that has destroyed the country.” He said that he would convene extraordinary sessions of Congress, which would consider the package of bills during the summer (in the Southern Hemisphere – December, January, February).

Speaking to reporters, the president listed only 30 of the 366 reforms included in the decree. In particular, Mr. Miley wants to eliminate regulations that prevent the privatization of state-owned companies. The reforms proposed by the president will also affect, in particular, the tourism and automotive sectors of the economy, the regulation of football clubs, land law, and the Civil and Commercial Codes. In addition, Mr. Miley proposes repealing procurement and competition laws in grocery stores.

Previously, Argentina’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced about a more than double devaluation of the national currency, the peso, and a sharp reduction in government spending as part of President Miley’s radical economic reforms.
