The intentions of Russia and China to implement a joint program in the field of lunar exploration is evidence of growing strategic competition in space, said John Olson, a spokesman for the US Space Command.
Speaking at a briefing on Friday, Olson also noted that the importance of the moon is currently very high, and this must be understood. He also recalled that so far only American astronauts have been on the moon.
Earlier, Moscow and Beijing agreed to jointly create the International Scientific Lunar Station, which will be deployed in two stages from 2025 to 2035, after which its operation will begin.
In turn, the United States is implementing the Artemis program, which provides for a moon landing in 2025.
