The parents of a five-year-old boy who died this spring under the wheels of a car in a parking lot in Khimki near Moscow asked for the maximum punishment for the culprit of the accident. The pensioner, not convinced of the safety of the maneuver, begged the relatives of the deceased for forgiveness.
As MK once reported, the tragedy occurred on May 12 in a parking lot near a hardware store. The kid was walking with his father when he was under the wheels of a Suzuki Grand Vitara moving in reverse. The boy could not be saved. The car was driven by a 64-year-old pensioner from Moscow.
At the trial, the heartbroken father of the deceased said that he was doing repairs at home. On that day, he and his son decided to take a minibus to the store.
The boy’s relatives compared the driver with the killer and asked for the maximum sentence – five years in prison. Although they emphasized that this would not be enough. The baby was a long-awaited child in the family, his death was an irreparable loss. After the tragedy, the child’s mother could not stay in Khimki – she had to leave for a while.
The culprit of the accident said that he was looking for a place for the car in the parking lot. He decided to park the car next to the store and just for a minute run there for paint. Passing back, he looked in the right mirror, so as not to interfere with the leaving cars. The man said that if he had known about the tragedy in advance, he would have made ten extra laps in the parking lot to prevent what happened.
At the trial, he asked the boy’s family for forgiveness, but they could not forgive him.
According to the conclusions of experts, the driver, moving in reverse, was not convinced of the safety of his maneuver in relation to other road users.
The Khimki city court sentenced the man to three years in a colony-settlement.
As an additional punishment, he was prohibited from engaging in activities related to driving vehicles for 2.5 years.
As a moral and material damage for the death of a child, parents will receive a little more than three million rubles.
