"Odessa is a Russian-speaking city": an Odessa woman responded harshly to local radicals

In Odessa, local activists are checking how the law of Ukraine “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language” is being implemented. At one of the stores, they saw signs “Shoe repair” and “Key making” in Russian and asked the business owner to explain why the state language was not used.

To this, the woman replied that Odessa is a Russian-speaking city. After that there was a scuffle.

Recall that the law on the language in Ukraine was adopted in 2019. The law regulates the use of the Ukrainian language as the only state language in all spheres of public life throughout the country: it should become mandatory for state authorities and local governments, all educational institutions, hospitals and the service sector.
