The party of pro-Russian ex-Prime Minister Fico won the elections in Slovakia

The party of former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico Smer won the parliamentary elections with 22.94% of the votes. The victory was confirmed by the head of the State Commission for Elections and Control over the Financing of Political Parties, Ladislav Oroz.

Second place was taken by the liberal pro-European party Progresivne Slovensko with 17.96% of the votes, followed by the social democratic party Hlas-SD (14.7%).

Extraordinary elections to the parliament of Slovakia took place the day before. 25 political associations were allowed to participate in them.

To form a government, Smer needs to secure the support of at least 76 deputies out of 150, while Fico secured 42 seats in parliament for his party.
