The organizers recalled the rules of the new season “Conquer the Sparrow Hills!”

At the beginning of December, the twentieth season of the legendary Olympics “Conquer the Sparrow Hills!” started. Its organizers are the federal newspaper “Moskovsky Komsomolets” and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. For two decades in a row, PVG has been providing talented schoolchildren with a ticket to a bright future – the opportunity to enter the best universities in the country on preferential terms.

On Wednesday, December 13, at the MK press center there was a conference between the Deputy General Director of the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper Oleg Vorobyov and the Deputy Head of the Department for Work with Talented Youth of Moscow State University Mikhail Kopchikov. The organizers talked about the nuances of participating in the new season of the Olympiad, and also gave schoolchildren valuable advice and recommendations.

How to take part in the qualifying round

The first stage of the Olympiad is traditionally held in absentia format. To take part in the new season of the “Conquer the Sparrow Hills!” Olympiad, participants need to register on the project website. We remind you that the qualifying round is available to ambitious schoolchildren from Russia and other countries, as well as students who receive secondary vocational education in the field of arts.

Registration for the Olympiad continues. Important: participants of previous seasons of “Conquer the Sparrow Hills!” You must also re-register. The qualifying stage will last from December 8, 2023 to January 9, 2024.

The subjects in which PVG participants will compete for the main prize have not changed since last year: geography, journalism, foreign language, history, literature, mathematics, social studies and physics.

“Before you start tasks, you need to calculate how much time is given to complete them in order to calculate your time and effort. As soon as the participant opens the task, the timer starts and cannot be paused. Of course, it’s worth looking at the assignments from previous years, which remained the same in structure,” Mikhail Kopchikov noted during the broadcast.

A unique feature of PVG tasks is that participants can reflect and express themselves while solving them. Depending on the subject, the exam may consist of one or two parts. This could be a test form, where you will need to choose the correct answer, or a creative part, where the Olympiad participant will be asked to upload a document with the completed task.

Basic Rules

In addition, the organizers announced a number of approved rules for holding and participating in the Olympiad. Participants in the new season can complete tasks for older classes. The final stage of the Olympiad this season will take place on one day for each subject; there are no reserve days.

No later than February 15, 2024, the correct answers and evaluation criteria for work will appear on the project website. Before March 1, the organizers will publish the preliminary results of the qualifying stage. At that time the possibility of filing an appeal will open. Until March 15, the website will display lists of winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad.

The organizers reserve the right to disqualify violators of the Olympiad regulations. For example, removal from the competition can be obtained for errors at the registration stage, as well as detection of plagiarism in the works of participants.

“Our advice is to carefully register for the Olympiad together with your parents. So that the opportunity to enter the best university in the country is not jeopardized due to a technical error. Please once again pay very close attention to the registration stage,” reminded Oleg Vorobyov.

To date, about 6,000 participants are already participating in the qualifying round; usually, by the end of the first stage, the number increases to 20,000 children from all over the country. The most important indicator of the quality of knowledge of the Olympiad participants is that not a single student who entered MSU over the 20 years of the project’s existence was expelled from the university.
