Ilan Shor, head of the Moldovan opposition party “Shor”, said that the parliament will register an initiative to hold a consultative referendum on the name of the state language of Moldova.
The ruling Action and Solidarity party on March 2 approved the renaming of the state language to Romanian in the first reading.
In the text of the Declaration of Independence of Moldova, Romanian is named as the state language. In 2013, the country’s constitutional court considered that, on this basis, the state language should have such a name, although it is called Moldovan in the constitution.
