Oncologist Vakhabova: smokers and the elderly have the highest risk of cancer

Yulia Vakhabova, an oncologist at the Institute of Oncology of the European Medical Center, identified two groups of people who have the highest risk of developing malignant tumors. She spoke about this in an interview with “RG”.

“First of all, it is the elderly. The older a person is, the higher their risk of getting cancer. Therefore, people over 50 need to monitor their health very closely and undergo regular medical examinations, ”said the medical expert.

Vakhabova stressed that in order to reduce the risk of getting cancer, it is recommended to do mammography, colonoscopy, gastroscopy, CT scan of the lungs and more every year.

Speaking about smokers, the expert noted that in such a group of people the risk of developing cancer increases 7 times, including lung cancer. She also added that tobacco smoke in general negatively affects the entire human body.
