The Ombudsman from Tatarstan asked Roskomnadzor to check the series “The Boy’s Word”

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Tatarstan, Irina Volynets, contacted Roskomnadzor to check the youth series “The Boy’s Word. Blood on the asphalt” for compliance with traditional values. Local media wrote that after the release of the series, teenagers in Kazan began to stage fights from the series and post them on the Internet.

Photos of the ombudsman’s statement were published by Ksenia Sobchak in her Telegram channel. In a statement to Roskomnadzor, the Ombudsman emphasizes that the series romanticizes banditry and is gaining more and more followers among minors.

“The film became a romanticization of banditry and a justification for a terrible phenomenon – the “Kazan phenomenon” and forms false ideas about the criminal world in the eyes of young people,” Irina Volynets said in a statement.

In conversation with NSN Ms. Volynets confirmed that she sent a request to check the series. In her opinion, the series provoked a surge in child crime. “Cases of child aggression have already been recorded, teenagers imitate groups, some communities,” the Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Tatarstan told NSN.

The series “The Boy’s Word. Blood on the Asphalt” (2023) directed by Zhora Kryzhovnikov is marked with an age limit of 18+. It tells about the life of youth groups in Kazan in the late 1980s. The heroes of the series organize criminal gangs, divide territory and start fights. The series stars Ivan Yankovsky, Sergei Burunov, Yulia Alexandrova and others. It comes out on November 9 in online cinemas Wink and Start.

Regional media wrote that after watching the series, teenagers in Tatarstan began to imitate its characters. Thus, the Tatarstan-24 TV channel published video of a fight, the participants of which were in Telegram channels with the names of two well-known organized crime groups in Kazan. There, the TV channel noted, they assign each other “arrows” and publish videos of fights.

A representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in an interview with TASS, noted that no statements were received to the police, and there were no appeals to medical institutions. And the children said that they decided to just play this way – they divided into two teams, pushed each other into the snow and threw snowballs.

“Kazan Phenomenon” is the collective name for numerous criminal gangs in the city of Kazan that existed in the 1970s and 1980s. The gang members were mostly minors and minors. The gangs competed for territory in the city, staging massive wall-to-wall fights using rebar and metal balls.
