The oldest giraffe in Europe died in Rostov

In Rostov-on-Don, the female giraffe Lizonka (Elizara), who was officially the oldest representative of this species in Europe, died, RIA Novosti reports citing the press service of the zoo.

Lizonka was reportedly kept in the Rostov zoo. She was born in 1994 and spent her entire life in Rostov.

Lizonka belonged to the Rothschild giraffe species, this species is included in the International Red Book. Typically, giraffes of this species live in nature reserves in Kenya and Uganda. Currently, there are no more than 700 such animals left in the world.
