Nutritionist Anna Belousova, in an interview with Sputnik radio, warned that tea and coffee could negatively affect the absorption of vitamins and told how to avoid this effect. According to a dietitian, vitamins are digested in the stomach and then absorbed in the small intestine. Therefore, if you drink strong tea or coffee with meals, the absorption process may slow down.

Belousova recommends drinking weak tea or coffee 10-15 minutes before meals to avoid negative consequences for the absorption of vitamins. If you need to drink tea or coffee after a meal, then you should wait about 40 minutes so that the assimilation process does not slow down.

She also noted that the tannins found in coffee and tea can make it difficult to absorb vitamins. Starch, which is in jelly, can also have a similar effect. At the same time, according to Belousova, carbonated drinks do not interfere with the absorption of vitamins, although some people believe the opposite.

For more efficient absorption of vitamins, the nutritionist recommends drinking them with water, fruit drink, rosehip broth or dried fruit compote.
