In Russia, the population of the rarest large cat, the Far Eastern leopard, has grown to 125 adults. This was told by the head of the science department of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Land of the Leopard” Marina Syritsa.
“These are 125 adults, of which 49 are males, 65 are females – this is a favorable ratio of females and males,” Syritsa emphasized. She added that another 11 leopards have not had their sex determined. At least 13 kittens were born.
According to the results of the study, the population remains stable.
Camera trap data shows the dispersal of animals in various directions within their historical range.
Further growth of the rare predator population is associated with the improvement of the quality of the leopard’s habitats and with their possible resettlement in the territory of their historical range.
