Over the past seven years, the number of children with disabilities in Russia has grown by 135,000, Deputy Labor Minister Alexei Vovchenko said. He clarified that at the beginning of 2015 there were 590,000 such children, now there are 725,000. The Deputy Minister called this a significant increase.
Mr. Vovchenko spoke at a meeting of the Council for the Affairs of the Disabled under the Federation Council, his words are reported by TASS. As the deputy head of the Ministry of Labor specified, 11 million people with disabilities live in Russia. Of these, almost 7 million are over 60 years old.
Alexey Vovchenko also said that since 2016, diseases of the circulatory system and malignant neoplasms have taken the first place in diseases leading to disability among adults. In children, psychiatric and behavioral disorders are more likely to be the cause.
