The international tournament under the auspices of the National Hockey League will take place in February 2025 without the participation of the Russian national team. The NHL press service announced this on Friday, February 2.
The national hockey teams of Canada, the USA, Finland and Sweden are expected to compete from February 12 to 20, 2025. Based on the results of the round-robin tournament, two finalists will be determined, and then the winner will be determined in the match between them.
The Games will be held in the United States and Canada, with one host city in each country to be determined.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, who oversees sports in the Cabinet of Ministers, said that our country will not be isolated from international sports. The politician recalled that soon the BRICS Games, the “Games of the Future” and the Friendship Games will be held in Russia for the first time.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin emphasized that the actions of international sports officials towards our country are a complete contradiction and distortion of the ideas of the founder of the Olympic movement Pierre Coubertin and slogan “Oh, sport, you are the world!”.
