The Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman announced 200 deaths as a result of the operation Baku

As a result of Azerbaijan’s military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, 200 people were killed, the office of human rights ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) said.

“As of 21:30 on September 20, according to the office of the human rights defender, at least 200 deaths and more than 400 injuries were recorded,” says a message published on the social network X.

Among the civilian population, the number of wounded exceeds 40 people, 13 of whom are children. The Ombudsman’s office also clarified that the number of civilian deaths reached 10 people, including five children. Work is underway to establish the fate of the missing people.

On the afternoon of September 20, Armenian Ombudsman Anahit Manasyan reportedthat 32 people were killed during the shelling, seven of whom were children. According to her, more than 200 people were injured, including 35 civilians.

On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorism measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restorate the constitutional order.” Already on September 20, the NKR announced a complete ceasefire and disarmament of troops through the mediation of Russian peacekeepers. This was confirmed by the defense departments of Azerbaijan and Russia. On September 21, negotiations are due to take place between representatives of Baku and Stepanakert through the mediation of the leadership of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported about the death of Russian military personnel in the conflict zone. According to the ministry, their car came under small arms fire while returning from an observation post of the Russian peacekeeping contingent near the village of Dzhanyatag. The number of Russian peacekeepers killed was not specified; Russian and Azerbaijani investigators are working at the scene.
