The head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, Mufti Albir Krganov, commented on the words of the Pope about the cruelty of the Buryats and Chechens participating in the military operation in Ukraine. Mr. Krganov called this statement incomprehensible against the background of the proposals of the Vatican to become a platform for negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.

The mufti said that the Russian society of Russia is multinational and multi-religious, and its institutions, including law enforcement agencies, are formed according to this principle. “It is strange to hear such a remark when the Vatican and its representatives at all the latest international venues offer their platform for negotiations,” he told RIA Novosti.

The Pope, commenting on the conflict in Ukraine, declaredthat, “as a rule, the most cruel, perhaps, are those who are from Russia, but do not adhere to the Russian tradition, such as Chechens, Buryats, and so on.” Head of Russian Buddhists Damba Ayusheev named these words are “unkind”. Head of Buryatia Alexei Tsydenov saidthat, “if our soldiers were noticed, it means that they are doing their job well.”
