The movement “I/We Sergey Furgal” was recognized as extremist

The Khabarovsk Regional Court recognized the movement “I/we Sergey Furgal” as an extremist organization. This is stated in the resolution and in the regional prosecutor’s office.

“In the Khabarovsk Territory, at the request of the prosecutor, the public movement “I/we Sergei Furgal” was recognized as an extremist organization,” the department said.

54-year-old Sergei Furgal is now in prison.

In April 2019, the Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Igor Krasnov, on behalf of the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, began to study the decisions of regional investigators who suspended the investigation of a number of criminal cases initiated on the facts of particularly serious crimes committed in the Khabarovsk Territory and the Amur Region in 2004-2005, after why these cases were transferred to the Main Directorate for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases.

On the morning of July 9, 2020, special forces of the Russian Federal Security Service, together with employees of the Investigative Committee, detained Furgal near his home in Khabarovsk when he was getting ready to go to work. The detainee was transported by plane to Moscow, since, according to the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Alexander Khinshtein, Sergei Furgal, as “a person associated with the Far Eastern criminal community (OPS) Obshchak”, can use his connections in government structures, put pressure on witnesses and the course of the preliminary investigation itself. A criminal case was opened against Furgal – according to the investigation, he is the organizer of the attempted murder of businessman Alexander Smolsky on July 24, 2004 and the murders of businessmen Evgeny Zori in 2004 and Oleg Bulatov in 2005.

On February 10, 2023, Sergei Furgal was sentenced to 22 years in a maximum security colony. The corresponding decision was made by the Lyubertsy City Court of the Moscow Region.
