The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia instructed the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office to check the singer Valery Meladze for financing the armed forces of Ukraine, TASS reports citing a law enforcement source.
On March 29, Vitaly Borodin, Head of the Federal Project on Security and Anti-Corruption asked The Prosecutor General’s Office to check if Valery Meladze finances the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the funds that the singer earned “on corporate parties in Moscow and Dubai.”
Several Telegram channels in January distributed video from Valery Meladze’s New Year’s concert in Dubai. On it, the author of the video says to the singer: “Glory to Ukraine”, after which he removes the microphone and answers something. The author calls him “handsome” in response. The singer’s phrase was not captured on video. In social networks, it was suggested that Mr. Meladze said “glory to the heroes.” Commenting on the video, the singer stated that he wants “antagonism to stop” and “consent is established between close peoples.”
After the video was published, Federation Council member Elena Afanasyeva suggested deprive the singer of Russian citizenship, and State Duma deputy Andrei Lugovoy asked Attorney General to evaluate the actions of the singer.
At the end of December last year, two concerts of Valery Meladze were canceled in Novosibirsk, in January canceled his performance in Irkutsk. In late March became known about the cancellation of concerts in Novosibirsk, Kemerovo and Barnaul.
