The Moscow City Court satisfied the claim of the Ministry of Justice on the liquidation of the human rights center “Sova” (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent). The center itself announced this in Telegram. According to the report, the reason for the liquidation was the holding of events outside the region of registration (Moscow) or participation in them. The Center does not agree with the decision of the court and intends to appeal it.
“The Moscow City Court did not agree with the arguments of the defense that participation in events outside of Moscow is not a violation of the law. The court also did not agree with the fact that even if such participation is recognized as a violation, then it certainly should not be considered deliberate and gross, and therefore the liquidation of the center is not an adequate measure, ”the message says.
The center’s request to postpone the proceedings until the Gagarinsky District Court considers the Owl’s counterclaim against the Moscow Department of the Ministry of Justice was not granted, the report also notes. The center said that until the court decision came into force, it will continue to work.
The capital department of the Ministry of Justice sent a lawsuit to the Moscow City Court demanding the liquidation of the information and analytical center at the end of March 2023. The NGO investigates the manifestations of xenophobia and extremism, the relationship between religion and society, and the observance of human rights in the Russian Federation.
