The Moscow City Court approved the arrest of Panin (foreign agent) in absentia for justifying terrorism

The Moscow City Court left the defense’s appeal unsatisfied and approved the verdict of the Gagarinsky District Court on the arrest in absentia for two months of actor Alexei Panin (declared by the Ministry of Justice to be a foreign agent), reported press service. In May 2023, a criminal case was opened against the actor for justifying terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The maximum penalty for these articles is up to seven years in prison.

The reason was the calls of the head of the Safe Internet League, Ekaterina Mizulina, and the head of the Federal Project on Security and Anti-Corruption, Vitaly Borodin. Their complaints to the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General’s Office indicate that the actor insulted Russia and its inhabitants, condemned the president’s decision to conduct a military operation and approved the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge. Andrei Panin himself (declared a foreign agent by the Ministry of Justice) has been living in Spain since 2020.
