The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center in Dubai has announced that the Japanese lander Hakuto-R has begun landing on the surface of the moon. On board is the first Arab lunar rover, Rashid, created in the UAE.
The entire lunar rover is only 10 kg. It was launched into space from Cape Canaveral last December.
The descent vehicle is supposed to deliver Rashid to the previously unexplored northeastern part of the visible side of the Moon in the Lake of Dreams region.
Lunokhod has two video cameras, a microscope and a thermal imager. It is powered by solar panels. The specialists of the center in Dubai expect that the lunar rover will start working on the surface of the moon on Thursday.
