Yesterday, February 3, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of Yakutia entered into an agreement with the Russian Union of Martial Arts LLC based on a meeting with the sports federations of the region, reports the press service of the head and government of the republic.

One of the tasks of the Russian Union of Martial Arts LLC is to organize and conduct tournaments that combine competitions in various types of martial arts, including national types. This, in turn, will expand the geography of performances of Yakut fighters, and will also provide them with the opportunity to improve their level of skill, competing with professionals in related sports. The main goal of this work is to popularize the hapsagai wrestling.

According to Ramil Gabbasov, president of the Russian Union of Martial Arts LLC, traditional Yakut wrestling has every chance of becoming widespread and popular among residents of other regions. In addition, sport can serve as one of the ways for Russians to get acquainted with the culture of a given republic.

“We discussed with the leadership of the republic the organization of the World Khapsagai Championship, which will be held in Yakutia in 2025 and will bring together participants from 30 countries. In addition to Khapsagai, athletes will also compete in Kyrgyz wrestling, Kazakh wrestling and other sports. Fans of sambo, freestyle wrestling and Greco “Roman wrestling will also be able to take part in the hapsagai wrestling. According to its rules, this is the simplest type of wrestling,” Ramil Gabbasov is quoted as saying.
