The Ministry of Justice has included the World Wide Fund for Nature (formerly WWF Russia) in the list of foreign and international non-governmental organizations whose activities are recognized as undesirable in Russia. About it reported on the website of the department.
The organization was included in the list of undesirable organizations based on the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office dated June 20, 2023. On June 22, in connection with this decision, the World Wide Fund for Nature (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) terminated relations with the international World Wide Fund for Nature (World Wildlife Fund, WWF). The organization also terminated the agreement to use the “Panda” logo and the acronym WWF.
The Prosecutor General’s Office explained its decision by the fact that the organization “forms economic threats” to Russia, including hindering the government’s plans for the industrial development of the Arctic. It was noted that the World Wide Fund for Nature, under the guise of environmental protection, is trying to “move the routes of the Northern Sea Route towards the US economic zone.”
In the register of foreign agents of the Ministry of Justice, the World Wide Fund for Nature was included 10th of March. WWF representatives told Kommersant that they would seek judicial review of the decision. June 21 environmental and environmental organizations and public associations sent a letter to Vladimir Putin with a request to cancel the decision to enter the organization into the register of foreign agents.
Now there are 91 undesirable organizations on the list of the Ministry of Justice. Among them are two environmental Greenpeace and fund “Bellona”. Today, the Prosecutor General’s Office recognized the activities of The Altai Project as undesirable. It has not yet been included in the list of the Ministry of Justice. For cooperation with an undesirable organization, liability is provided up to criminal.
