The Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed to involve local police officers in working with critics of the authorities – Kommersant

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs published for discussion project order, which proposes to expand the duties of district police officers. The department proposes to involve them in educational conversations with persons who have received punishment for displaying Nazi symbols, promoting extremism, discrediting the army and government agencies, including on the Internet.

According to the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, participants in unauthorized rallies who resisted the police will also come under the supervision of local police officers. Precinct officers will have to register such persons and carry out preventive work with them.

It is proposed to make changes to the law “On the service of the local police commissioner in the administrative area served and the organization of this activity.”

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Anatoly Vyborny believes that preventing extremism by local police officers will be much more profitable than later eliminating the consequences of such behavior.

“The draft order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs places emphasis on crime prevention. The role of the district police officer in preventive work with citizens prone to extremism will be strengthened… Innovations will allow optimizing the functionality of the district police officers for better implementation of individual preventive work at the administrative site,” the deputy believes, his words are quoted as “Parliamentary newspaper”.

Over the past year, the number of extremist crimes in Russia has increased by almost 50%. The Ministry of Internal Affairs registered more than 1.5 thousand crimes of an extremist nature and more than 2.2 thousand crimes of a terrorist nature.
