The Ministry of Industry and Trade wants to expand the list of labeled clothing

To reduce costs and the risk of counterfeiting, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is going to expand the list of labeled clothing. In particular, from June 1, 2023, they want to include faux fur clothing, tracksuits, shorts, shirts in the list for mandatory labeling. Now it includes clothes made of natural and artificial leather, knitted blouses, coats.
“The label is expected to cover faux fur clothing, tracksuits, ski suits, jackets, trousers, shorts, overalls, shirts, blouses, suits, skirts, dresses, sweaters, outerwear, shawls, scarves, ties, bow ties and neckerchiefs,” the ministry said (quote from TASS).
At the moment, in the system of digital marking “Honest Sign” the list of light industry goods includes: clothes made of natural and artificial leather, knitted blouses, coats, short coats, capes, raincoats, jackets, windbreakers, windbreakers, fur coats.
The initiative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade was supported by the Russian Union of Clothing Manufacturers (RSPO), the Association of Retail Companies (AKORT), Kupishuz (Lamoda), Vostok-Service-Spetskomplekt JSC, Technoavia Firm, Sportmaster and Snow Queen .
According to representatives of the department, the introduction of such rules is necessary because of the difficulties in working simultaneously with marked and unmarked clothing. It is noted that this increases costs, as well as the risk of fake workwear and fur products appearing on the market.
According to BrandMonitor, the turnover of counterfeit goods in Russia in 2021 amounted to from 4 trillion to 6.5 trillion rubles. Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade allowed the import of goods into Russia through parallel imports. Experts believe that such a mechanism will increase the share of counterfeit goods in the country.
