Deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Alexei Uchenov said that soon Russia will need more engineers than economists. According to him, the demand for technical specialties and secondary vocational education is growing in the country.
“We see that there is a demand for technical education, today we have a very good school and higher education, and we see how secondary vocational education is improving. In the short term, we will need more engineers than economists, I think that this is the future,” said Alexei Uchenov at the plenary session of the XVI International Congress-Exhibition “Young Professionals. We train personnel for economic growth” in Sirius (TASS quote).
Mr. Uchenov added that young people have become more interested in programs of secondary special education.
As Kommersant found out, most of the vacant budget places on the basis of the admission company to universities this year remained in engineering and technical areas. Universities believe that the vacancies appeared due to the admission rules that have been in force for the second year, which eliminated the so-called second wave of enrollment. The situation could also be affected by a decrease in interest in these areas of study and the socio-economic situation.
