The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has made changes to the vaccination calendar for epidemiological reasons. The corresponding order of the department was published on Tuesday, January 30.

Vaccination against coronavirus infection is now provided only for representatives of categories of citizens vulnerable to this disease. The Ministry of Health included adults who have not previously had COVID-19 and have never been vaccinated against it.

Vaccinations against coronavirus are also indicated for citizens over 60 years of age, people with chronic diseases (for example, the cardiovascular system), as well as patients with immunodeficiency conditions, autoimmune diseases or cancer.

The new vaccination calendar will take effect on September 1, 2024.

Vaccination remains the most effective preventive method against many infectious diseases, e.g. against whooping cough. Rospotrebnadzor reminded that vaccination against this disease is included in the national calendar, and also told how to distinguish a regular cough from whooping cough.

At the same time, cases of simultaneous detection of viral and bacterial infections in patients have become more frequent in Russia. The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, drew attention to this. The spread of cases of bacterial infection, according to immunologist Vladimir Bolibok, may be due to with a decrease in the number of vaccinations against specific pathogens.
