The Ministry of Health extended the expiration date of Sputnik V vaccines

The expiration date of Sputnik V vaccines has been extended by the Ministry of Health, now it will be from six months to a year for different manufacturers. Previously, Sputnik V had a shelf life of six to nine months, depending on the manufacturer of the vaccine. The department assured that the safety of using the drug for a longer period is confirmed by the examination.

“The expiration dates of the Sputnik V vaccines for the prevention of a new coronavirus infection have been extended and range from six months to one year for drugs from different manufacturers. Corresponding changes have been made to the instructions for the medical use of the vaccine.

The department noted that the decision to extend the shelf life is based on the results of the examination. “At the same time, information about a shorter shelf life indicated on the packaging of the drug produced before the decision to extend it is not a sign that the drug is expired,” the press service emphasized.

Against the backdrop of an increase in the incidence of coronavirus in Russia, the demand for vaccinations has increased: in some regions, its increase has been recorded three times. At the same time, as Kommersant found out, the partners of the Gamaleya Center, the developer of the main Russian vaccine Sputnik V, produced much less of the drug this year – only 2.34 million doses against 102.3 million doses last year. A significant part of last year’s vaccine has already been used – according to official statistics, 75 million Russians were vaccinated. The Ministry of Health reported that the stocks of the drug are sufficient for “for uninterrupted vaccination even in the event of a sharp rise in demand from the population.”
