Across Russia, 101 people were poisoned by surrogate alcohol “Mr. Cider”. The death toll from poisoning has risen to 31. Such data was cited by TASS with reference to the Ministry of Health. Among those poisoned by cider are a pregnant woman and four teenagers. Three are in critical condition, 25 people are in serious condition. One person was discharged.
As the investigation established, poisonous cider was made from an alcohol-containing liquid stolen from the warehouse of the Federal State Institution “Center for Economic and Service Support of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Samara Region.” The police withdrew a batch of liquid from circulation back in 2012, then it was sent to a warehouse, from where it was stolen.
The sergeant guarding the warehouse of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was arrested, and the deputy head of the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Samara Region, Yuri Safronov, who oversaw the rear units, was fired by the Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
Alcohol under the brand name “Mr. Cider” was produced by the Samara company “Andi” at the private brewery “Varka”. Its owner, Anar Huseynov, who was previously charged under an administrative article for trafficking in alcohol without documents, was arrested until August 4.
The first cases of alcohol poisoning were recorded on June 5. In the samples of “Mr. Cider” found impurities of ethyl butyrate and methanol. Party of dangerous alcohol seized in 11 regions of Russia.
