The Ministry of Health announced an increase in the death rate of the rural population due to alcohol

The syndrome of alcohol dependence of the rural population increased by 7%. This was announced by the director of the department of medical care for children, obstetrics and public health services of the Ministry of Health Elena Sheshko. According to her, the death rate from the use of alcoholic beverages is also growing.

Ms. Sheshko spoke at a meeting in the Federation Council. She said that female alcoholism in the countryside also increased by 7%. As the representative of the Ministry of Health noted, in 2021, in 30% of cases, children died because their parents did not pay attention to them due to alcoholism. “Unfortunately, the death rate of the rural population due to alcohol is growing. Mental disorders in just one year increased by 6% for rural residents. Alcohol dependence syndrome has grown by 7% for the village,” said Elena Sheshko (quoted by RIA Novosti).

In October, President Vladimir Putin declaredthat the problem of alcoholism in Russia is solvable. The high level of consumption, in his opinion, is associated with “insufficient development of social infrastructure.” At the same time, according to RBC, the government presented a negative response to the initiative of a group of deputies and senators to place the warning “Alcohol is your enemy!” on bottles of alcohol, as well as to make the inscriptions on the bottles about the dangers of alcohol more visible.
