The Ministry of Finance proposed to close 57 colonies due to unnecessary spending
[ad_1]
This year it is planned to close 57 colonies in Russia. According to the Ministry of Finance, there is no need for their functioning, and their maintenance today is an unnecessary waste for the budget.
Recall that the prison population has reached its historical minimum in Russia. Thus, there are 433,000 people behind bars now, while the number of correctional institutions reaches 900 (including settlement colonies, medical correctional institutions, etc.).
Some of the colonies today are half empty, there are also those where there are only a third or even fewer prisoners from the possible limit (say, in a correctional colony designed for 1300 people, in fact there are only 300). Their content is inappropriate. It was assumed that 57 colonies (their list was compiled long ago) would be closed within three years, but then it was decided to liquidate them this year.
Detainees from institutions that are closed will be transported to others located in the same region.
