The Ministry of Education proposed to wait for the government’s position and postpone consideration of the bill banning the adoption of Russian orphans by citizens of unfriendly countries. Andrey Korneev, deputy head of the educational department, noted that foreign adoption in Russia “came to naught”: in 2022, the guardianship authorities did not issue a single consent to foreign candidates.
“As an official representative of the government, I still ask you to postpone the consideration of the bill a little, wait for the government’s official position so that the appropriate decision is made in a consolidated manner,” Mr. Korneev said during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on family, women and children (quoted by TASS).
The fact that foreign citizens actually lost the opportunity to adopt Russian children, the deputy minister called the result of the joint work of the Ministry of Education and guardianship and guardianship authorities. “Everyone understands what the situation is going on in the world,” the official explained a similar policy in the field of establishing family ties between orphans and foreigners.
August 1, 2022 deputies from the parties of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Liberal Democratic Party, “A Just Russia – For the Truth” and “New People” made for consideration by the State Duma a draft law blocking the possibility of adoption and custody of orphans from Russia to citizens of unfriendly states. A similar law that banned the adoption of Russian children by US citizens was accepted in Russia in 2012: it received the unofficial name “Dima Yakovlev’s law”.
