The ban on the use of foreign messengers in schools was previously reported by the media of the Yaroslavl, Kaliningrad, and Orenburg regions.
On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow supported the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia and recognized the Meta company (which owns the social networks Facebook and Instagram, as well as the WhatsApp messenger) as an extremist organization. The court banned the company’s activities in Russia. However, judge Olga Solopova explained that her decision does not apply to WhatsApp, since it is a messenger and not a social network.
