Russian banks should not provide services through messengers and accustom users to this, as fraudsters can take advantage of this. This was stated by Vladimir Bengin, Director of the Cybersecurity Department of the Ministry of Digital Development, speaking at the Ural Forum “Cybersecurity in Finance”.
“There is a third story, which you definitely don’t need to do. No need to provide services through messengers. A call to banks… Let’s not accustom citizens to the fact that a bank can officially come to them through instant messengers and provide some services, offer them, and so on, because we will never be able to teach them which checkbox to believe, which checkbox not to believe.” , – he said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).
According to Bengin, users often receive calls from scammers disguised as the Central Bank and the Ministry of Internal Affairs via WhatsApp. He clarified that from 65% to 85% of all fraudulent calls now go through this messenger. At the same time, customers do not notice that scammers call them via WhatsApp.
