The Minister of Defense of Ukraine spoke about the difficult situation in the east

Reznikov also said in an interview with CBS that the battle tanks that Kyiv’s allies promised to supply are “already on the way,” and then the country’s authorities hope to receive military aircraft that can “break the rules of the game.” Ukraine, according to the head of the department, is beginning to receive military equipment that was previously denied, including anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, as well as long-range artillery and air defense systems.

Reznikov also acknowledged that it would take time to receive the promised tanks and train crews to use them. He expressed the hope that the tanks would be ready by spring. The official commented on the data that the country’s Ministry of Defense employees profit from contracts. Reznikov said that he did not know about the contract, under which rations were purchased at inflated prices, and, according to him, this did not affect the troops.

Earlier this week, Bogdan Khmelnytsky, head of the public procurement department of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, was fired from office. As RIA Novosti wrote with reference to the Ukrainian media, the department buys products for the military twice or three times more expensive than they can be purchased in stores. Against this background, Deputy Minister Vyacheslav Shapovalov also resigned.

Earlier it became known that Western countries plan to transfer a large volume of tanks and armored vehicles to Ukraine: on January 25, the United States announced the transfer of 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, on the same day Germany announced the delivery of 14 Leopard 2 tanks. As Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, said, Kyiv is also negotiating the supply of aviation.

Against the background of reports about the transfer of tanks to Kyiv, the Kremlin pointed to the increased direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the transfer of weapons would not fundamentally change the situation, but would “add problems” for Ukraine.
