The Parliament of South Africa is ready to hold peace talks between the parliamentarians of Russia and Ukraine, informed portal News24 with reference to the report of the National Assembly of the Republic. The initiative was also supported in the UAE.
According to the report, which was made by the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa Nosivive Mapisa-Nkakula, in order to organize a meeting of Russian and Ukrainian parliamentarians in the legislative bodies of South Africa and the UAE, it is proposed to send messages with proposals:
On June 17, a mission of seven African countries arrived in St. Petersburg, presenting a peaceful initiative to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. During the visit, representatives of African countries met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The peace plan of the African countries includes the need to achieve peace through negotiations and diplomatic means, the end of hostilities, de-escalation on both sides, respect for the sovereignty of states and peoples in accordance with the UN Charter, ensuring the movement of grain and fertilizers by Russia and Ukraine for needy African countries in accordance with the grain deal and etc.
Since the beginning of the military special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March last year, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later, the process was frozen, since Kyiv withdrew from it.
Formerly Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) Vladimir Medinsky declaredthat Ukraine was close to concluding a peace treaty with Russia at last year’s Istanbul talks. He noted that the delegation of Ukraine did not hide the coordination of its decisions with the West, which opposed the conclusion of a peace agreement. Therefore, last year’s initialed agreement with Kiev, which Putin showed at a meeting with representatives of African countries on June 17, is not a revelation for the West.
