“My house was attacked and my family was the victim of an assassination attempt. My resolve to protect and serve the Republic is stronger than ever. I will not back down,” he wrote.

The attack took place on July 2, on the night from Saturday to Sunday. The mayor’s wife was hospitalized – she was injured while trying to escape from the attackers. Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire expressed his support for the Jeanbrun family and urged on Twitter “not to use violence, verbal or physical”, writes BFMTV. According to the channel, the prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the attempted murder, no arrests have been made yet, but one or more suspects are being actively sought.

On June 27, unrest broke out in France. This was preceded by the murder of a 17-year-old youth with Algerian and Moroccan roots by the police named Nael M. According to law enforcement agencies, the young man did not obey the traffic police order to stop, he already had several convictions. The incident was caught on camera and sparked protests. Riots swept most of the country’s major cities, including Marseille, Lyon, Strasbourg, Lille and even Paris.

The French Ministry of the Interior intends to send 45,000 police officers to suppress mass protests that have turned into riots, pogroms and looting. On the fifth day of the protests, 486 people were detained, AFP reported. In total, the number of detainees during the riots in the country exceeded 1,300.
